I served my last client in Chico on August 31. Right after Labor Day, my family picked up and moved to central Texas! It was hard to leave my clients and Zumba students in Chico, but I am confident I will find new people to serve here in Temple soon. We are still settling in to our temporary home while our house in California sells and we prepare to buy a house here.
In the mean time, I am looking first for a location to lead Zumba Basic and Zumba Gold classes. I will probably hold off on finding a new salon until we know where we will finally call our permanent home. I don't know yet, though...things are always fluctuating!
I just realized today that I have not posted on this blog in quite a while and wanted to let anyone who might happen upon this blog to know what's going on.

Studio nine Salon Gives Back
A friend of mine recently went somewhere else to get her hair cut. That fact alone doesn't bother me so much. I believe everyone should go where they want to go for their beauty services. I never want my friends to feel obligated to come to me for their beauty needs...especially if they feel loyal to another stylist!
My friend had never been to the salon she ended up going to before. It turns out, my friend just didn't know I would cut her hair for free if it was for Locks of Love. I couldn't really fault her for not knowing as I had not made it known! So, here I am, telling everyone that I gladly offer my services for free for a worthy cause.
If you have grown your hair out according to the guidelines set by Locks of Love, I will gladly cut it for you, free of charge! I find total transformations especially rewarding as a stylist. Anyone who has invested years in growing out their hair for the benefit of others deserves a new 'do. I'll even fill out the paperwork and send the hair in for you.
This year was my first year participating in Movember. I found out about it about a week before the November 1 "shave off." My sweet friend, Jen helped me draft a press release indicating that we would be shaving mustaches for free, in support of Prostate and Testicular Cancer Awareness. Jen also made adorable mustache cookies for the event! In addition to offering to shave "Mo Bros," I offered free facial hair waxing services to "Mo Sistas (the women who support the Mo Bros) that day. Donations were made and hopefully awareness was raised. When a man who has sported a 'stache for over 20 years shaves it off, people are bound to ask questions! It gave these guys a good opportunity to talk up preventive care to their buddies. If they chose to regrow their mustache with a new design, that gives even more chances to open up the lines of communication!
Jen has tried tirelessly the last few years to get a salon in town to participate in Pink Hair for Hope. Every year it is a struggle to get salons to respond to her. I got back into the salon scene a little too late to get involved this year. I hope to be a Pink Hair for Hope salon next year! If that doesn't happen, we will still do some version of it, be it dying stands pink, or offering clip-on extensions.
These are just a few ways that Studio nine Salon gives back.

No matter how hard we tried to keep things under control, most of us have probably put on a few pounds over the Thanksgiving holiday. It's hard to resist a second helping of stuffing, or a bigger piece of pie, right?
Now's the time to get back on track! Don't let a couple of days of weakness get you down.
One way to do that is to try a new workout routine, such as the amazing home exercise videos available from Team Beach Body! The top selling workouts are on sale today! My personal favorite, TurboFire, is just $53 during this Cyber Monday Sale.

Are Paraffin Treatments Sanitary?
Have you ever wondered if paraffin treatments are sanitary? You may be leery of dipping your hands into hot wax that all of our other clients have dipped in. Rest assured, it is a safe and sanitary treatment. Medical professionals use the same treatment on patients.
Paraffin contains no water or oxygen, which are needed for bacteria to grow. The wax warmer holds the paraffin at 130 degrees (54 degrees C). High temperature and lack of oxygen and water make for an inhospitable host for germs.
When a hand or foot is dipped into the melted paraffin, it is instantly coated with a layer of paraffin. What is on the skin stays on the skin. An instant barrier is formed because human skin is 22 degrees cooler than the melting point of the paraffin. Circulating blood in the treated area helps maintain that temperature. This process causes the paraffin to solidify as soon as it touches the skin. Because the barrier forms immediately, germs on the skin are instantly encapsulated and unable to contaminate the remaining paraffin in the bath during the first and repeat dips.
Paraffin treatments have been given in clinics, hospitals, salons, and spas for over 90 years. In that time, there have been no complaints of cross-contamination have been filed with the FDA. Are paraffin treatments sanitary? Definitely: Yes!
